The Schoolcraft College edition of A Skillful Approach to College Research is designed primarily to support students enrolled in discipline specific courses at Schoolcraft College that do not focus on teaching composition. However, the book would also work well in ENG 102. An individual student could successfully use the book to support their research in a class even if the book is not assigned by their professor.
The first section focuses on effective reading strategies. The second section provides exercises that a student can complete to identify a research topic based on their interests and values while still meeting the discipline specific requirements for the assignment. The final section explains in simple terms nine research strategies that the student can use to identify quality sources for their research project. The strategies are not steps to be followed in order. Instead, they are meant to be used in combination and adapted for the student's specific research focus.
As with other books published by Ehipassiko Press, there is plenty of space in A Skillful Approach to College Research: Schoolcraft College Edition for the student to reflect on the research process and record notes about sources they locate.
