Vision and Inspiration
This section of our website shares both the vision that guides our work and the inspiration behind it.
As a small press with no need to turn a profit, we enjoy the freedom to publish a wide range of books. Although rooted in the spirit of ehipassiko by encouraging investigation, we are not fixed to any particular style of publication. One way we do this is by favoring publications that include space for readers to engage directly in them through writing and contemplation.
You may have a strong idea for a book but feel uncertain about how to build in the reflective elements we value. That's where we come in. Helping authors develop the interactive, journaling components of their work is one of our specialties, and we will collaborate closely with you throughout the process.
Reflective Journal Series
Ehipassiko Press launched with the Dhamma Talk and Reflective Journal Series, which serves as a model for a broader range of spiritual and secular publications. We are currently seeking editors to lead this and similar series in other traditions. Editors will be responsible for recruiting contributors and working closely with authors.
- A Dhamma Talk and Reflective Journal Series (Buddhism)
- A Khutbah and Reflective Journal Series (Islam)
- A Sermon and Reflective Journal Series (Christianity)
- A Derasha and Reflective Journal Series (Judaism)
- Other spiritual or secular variations
Student Anthologies
We are open to publishing anthologies of student writing and art, particularly from high school or college students. These collections not only offer valuable learning experiences but also help showcase student voices and creativity.
Essay Collections
We are interested in themed collections of essays—whether by a single author or multiple contributors. These collections typically include prompts and space for reader reflection.
Creative Writing, Poetry, Creative Non-Fiction
We welcome submissions of short story collections, poetry, and creative nonfiction—either as individual or group-authored anthologies. Although novels are not our primary focus, we are open to considering those that align with the spirit of Ehipassiko by encouraging thoughtful investigation by the reader. Memoirs and other forms of reflective nonfiction are also encouraged.
Experimental Publications, Zines, Comics, Graphic Novels
If you're working on a zine, comic, graphic novel, or another experimental form of writing, we'd be interested in hearing your ideas.
Children's Books
Especially if they were written as part of a Service Learning Project or were written in collaboration with children, we are interested in publishing children's books.
Publications Not in English
While our primary language of publication is English, we are open to publishing in other languages if we have an established relationship with the author or translator.
Other Ideas
If you have an idea for a project that doesn't quite fit the categories above but still reflects our mission, please send us a brief proposal.
