Advantages for Individuals
Publishing Through Ehipassiko Press
Publishing your Open Educational Resource (OER) with Ehipassiko Press offers a range of benefits that support your goals as an educator, writer, and advocate for making high quality materials readily available:
Credibility:
Online publications are often overlooked or undervalued while paperback books continue to be viewed as more "legitimate" by many readers, institutions, and libraries. By publishing with Ehipassiko Press, your book will be available in paperback format, helping to overcome this perception. Additionally, while self-publishing can carry its own stigma, we provide the legitimacy of an independent press. We may be small and emerging, but we are a real publisher.
Collaborative Support: First book? Not sure what to do? Don't worry. We enjoy working with new as well as established authors. Your initial query will start a conversation during which we will provide you with support to develop your idea and polish your manuscript. Unfortunately, we cannot accept all queries we receive. Some might not fit our goals as a press. Or we might not have the capacity to take on another project at the moment. But, if we accept your idea, we are committed to working closely with you to provide the support you need.
Save Time and Money: Self-publishing requires navigating a learning curve and can involve significant costs, especially if you want your book to have an ISBN and be listed in Books in Print. We've already gone through that process. With our experience and existing publishing infrastructure-including an account with R.R. Bowker, the official ISBN agency for the U.S.-we can save you time, effort, and expenses.
Providing an ISBN: An International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a unique identifier that ensures your book can be found and cited accurately by individuals, libraries, and institutions. An ISBN is also required for inclusion in Books in Print. Currently, a single ISBN costs $125 if purchased individually. At Ehipassiko Press, we purchase ISBNs in bulk at a reduced rate and assign one to your book at no cost to you. We also handle the registration process to ensure your book appears in Books in Print.
No Royalties = No Loss: If you're publishing an OER on your own, you likely aren't expecting to make money. Your goal is to share your work freely. Publishing with Ehipassiko Press won't change that. Neither you nor the press will earn royalties. But what you will gain is professional credibility, cost savings, publication support, and the opportunity to join a community of like-minded authors committed to making high-quality materials freely accessible..
